NWRL: Options SA thrash Vision Sports as Hilltop Strikers struggle against All Stars

The last two Quarter-final first leg matches of the North West Regional League’s mini interpools were played on Sunday July 20 at the University of Bamenda Stadium. Options Sports Academy took a giant step closer to the Semi-finals with a 3#0 bashing of Vision Sports, as Hilltop Strikers came from behind to playing a one all tie against All Stars FA.

Options Sports Academy continued their title defense in scintillating fashion as a brace from Oris Ambe and a goal from Musa Yaya, secured them a commanding win against Vision Sports.

Captain Oris Ambe had an early chance to put Options Sports Academy in front at the eighth minute from the spot, but his penalty was saved by Goalkeeper Njuakom Elvis of Vision Sports. Oris came knocking again and again an found the curtain raiser at the 21st minute, to put the defending champions in front.

Musa Yaya made it two nil for OSA at the 61st minute, tapping in from a well worked Sergeo Marc Akinibom’s effort down the left, before Oris Ambe completed his brace with four minutes of the game to spare.

The second encounter pitted Hilltop Strikers FA against All Stars FA. Hilltop Strikers came into the encounter boasting an unbeaten run in the championship and only one goal conceded in the regular phase of the championship.

Goalkeeper Anye Boris of Hilltop Strikers was kept on constant alert, as he made two smart saves in the opening quarter of the game to deny All Stars FA. However, he was helpless when Redrick Kernyuy Toh struck from range at the 28th minute, to give All Stars the lead.

It took Hilltop Strikers 21 minutes in the second half to get an equalizer through Che Noel, and the scoreline remained unchanged till the final Whistle. Hilltop Strikers FA and All Stars FA will have it all to play during the return leg quarterfinals, meanwhile Options Sports Academy will take a commanding three goals advantage to the second leg.

The other Quarter-final first leg matches played on Saturday, saw Dream Team FC recording a 2#0 win over Rockland FC, while Mankon United and My Soccer Center FC separated on a 3#3 draw. The return leg Quarter-final games are expected to come up on Wednesday and Thursday, pending confirmation from the organizers.
