NW Governor opening the Regional coordination meetings

Governor Lele Lafrique made it clear that the NWR is on the part to recovery from the political and economic crisis that has plagued it for the past eight hears.

Governor Lele enumerated several investments projects carried out or on going in the region like the near completion of the Bamenda Babajou Road., tarring of parts of the Ring Road between. Ndu and Nkambe, CD2 projects within Bamenda (tarring of roads, construction of markets and City embellishment projects), the construction of a gas filling plant in Bamenda ( that will reduce cost of domestic cooking gas to 6500 frs), the ongoing construction of the Regional Assembly, the Regional customs office and the headquarters of the Rice Valley Development Chain amongst many.

On the security front, the governor is optimistic that the situation is greatly improving. “I can say without fear of contradiction that the Northwest Region is relatively calm. That the security situation is under control” though adding that “the enemy is still threatening our peaceful loving population with isolated and sometimes sporadic gunshots,….kidnaping for ransom, extorting of money from passengers, …as well as targeted attacks on innocent civilians in some village settings”

He urged the security services to put in place good strategies to prevent “these incidents from a dying horse for a rapid return to normalcy within the Northwest Region” He also mention special security measures have been put in place to secure Tubah subdivision and the student population.

He appealed to the population to remain Supportive by providing reliable information to the security force to ensure these projects and economic development continue to flourish.

He praised the population and. Elites who have mobilised and shun fear to denounce those perturbing the development of the Northwest Region. He promised a new dawn in the the region as far as security is concern.

Earlier the City Mayor, Paul Achobong welcomed all to the meeting and called for concerted action to fight insecurity. He appealed to the divisional officers to contained IDPs within their respective areas of command so as to prevent them coming to Bamenda and exerting pressure on city infrastructures and committing criminal acts

Mayor Achobong also used the opportunity to present the situation of the Bamenda urban by pass and wondered why the delay in World Bank funding. He hoped the governor will help present the situation to hierarchy for a speedy solution.

The coordination meeting also looked into decentralisation and reform of local taxation to create awareness and ensure better performance by local authorities.

The coordination meeting brought together regional adminstrative, judicial, and security heads, heads of regional services, religious and traditional authorities, administrative and municipal authorities of Bamenda I, II and III subdivisions.
