Fuel prices were increased by 15% from 630 FCFA per litre of super to 730 FCFA, 25.2% increase from 575 to 720 FCFA per litre of gasoline. in Bamenda by Saturday February 2, some filling stations started pumping at the new prices without the official prices being displayed. Some said they were supplied at the new prizes early that day. Some of the prices were hand written while awaiting the engineers of the ministry of water, energy and mines and it partners to officially set the new prices on the fueling pumps in the days ahead.
it should be noted that the prices in Bamenda, considered to be in the second zone will.be slightly higher that what obtains in Douala, Yaounde and Bafoussam, considered urban zones with SCDP depot. The prices will be higher than in Bamenda in places like Kumbo, Wum, Ndop, Fundong and Nkambe because of their distances from the SCDP depot.
The ripple effects of the increase is already being felt by the population. Some shops in Bamenda have increase prices of most basic items by a hundred francs citing changes in fuel prices. Many are also expecting transport fares to witness an increase in the days ahead.
