A man in his 60s whose real identity we are yet to confirm was murdered on Thursday February 1, 2024 in his medicine store at the Metta Quarter neighbourhood in Bamenda.
His remains has been transfered to the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary while security forces have opened up investigation.
The circumstances leading to his death still remains unclear. City FM gathered from an anonymous resident of the “Camion” Garage, Meta Quarter, who was also briefly held hostage during the ordeal that armed men rode into the area on four motor bikes, sealed the medicine store, taking the owner alongside him hostage.
They forced the owner to open a door that led into the backyard while firing in the air. Facing difficulties opening the door, the store owner was shot point blank from behind. The assailants immediately left the area after the act.
Since the start of the new year, not less than seven persons have been killed in Bamenda with nobody claiming responsibility and security forces unable to solve the cases. All have been civilians. Still fresh is the case of the format Quarter Head of Musang who was murdered at his home last month.
Many believed that most of the killings are score settling. With many guns circulating in the community and the prevailing socio-political crisis hitting the region, it becomes difficult for such cases to be solved. There are also cases of targeted killings carried out by separatist fighters and security forces against informants and sympathisers as the crisis take a twisted turn.
