NW women’s League: Hilltop Strikers records big debut win, as defending champions share spoils

Matches counting for the first day of play of the North West Regional second Division Female Football championship, took played this Tuesday July 22 at the GS Nibung Field. Hilltop Strikers FA Ladies recorded a 2#0 victory over Kumbo Strikers Ladies, while defending champions Abakwa Sports Academy, were held to a zero all tie by Precious Ladies FC.

The first game of the day pitted debutants Hilltop Strikers FA Ladies against Kumbo Strikers Ladies. A tightly contested game in the first half, saw Hilltop Strikers FA Ladies, opening scores at the 38 minutes through Odette Bih, who scored against her former team.

Ndongwa Mona Forngang increased tally for the League’s newbies at the 53rd minute, but on the other side goalkeeper Vanessa Bih Nkambi stayed vigilant at goal for Hilltop, and made important saves to secure a 2#0 win for her side.

Abakwa Sports Academy

The match of the day pitted defending champions Abakwa Sports Academy, against an ambitious Precious Ladies FC. Both sides produce an electrifying encounter, but were both guilty of so many wasted opportunities.

It needed the vigilance of goalkeeper Sharon Wiykiynyuy late in added time, as she pulled a cracking save to deny Precious Ladies from a beautiful Ann Afah Miyanui’s free kick. A goalless draw that settled a highly entertaining game from both sides.

Saint Michael Sports Academy (SaMisa), was on standby on match Day one of the championship.
