In a significant cultural event, the traditional rights for the installation of FON Kenneth Khan Assobo III were successfully carried out over the weekend, marking the end of a seven-year vacancy on the throne.
The ceremony, held on Friday, November 8, 2024 was attended by notable figures including the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for the Mezan Division, Simon Emile Mooh, sub-fons, and the president of the Pinyin Development Organization, who played a pivotal role in facilitating this historic coronation.
The SDO emphasized the importance of the FON’s installation during a press conference, highlighting widespread expectations from the community. ” We look up to you to foster peace, unity, and security within the Pinyin clan,” the SDO stated. “This is a moment of hope for our community, as we seek to restore harmony after years of uncertainty.”
The president of the Pinyin Development Organization( Akamensto Tamungang Eugene Penn) spoke about the broader implications of the ceremony for regional development. He highlighted initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, including roads and electricity, and enhancing the agricultural sector within the Pinyin clan. “Pinyin is in the process of constructing one of the largest palaces in the Northwest region, which is a significant step towards development,” he noted. “A village cannot have a grand palace while lacking basic roads and electricity. We envision Pinyin as a major tourist destination not just in the region, but across Cameroon.”
The new FON, His Royal Majesty Kenneth Khan Assobo, a former journalist with CRTV, was recognized for his unique perspective and commitment to community engagement. His background in journalism is expected to play a crucial role in promoting transparency and development initiatives under his leadership.
The ceremony was marked by traditional rites and cultural performances, symbolizing the rich heritage of the Pinyin clan. Community leaders and members expressed optimism about the new FON’s potential to lead and unite the clan, fostering collaboration and development in the region.
