Barely days after converning the electorate on October 12, 2025, President Paul Biya has officially announced he will be running to succeed himself.
He announced on Sunday 13 July through his Facebook account that “I am a candidate for the 12 October 2025 presidential election. Rest assured that my determination to serve you is commensurate with the serious challenges facing us.”
President Biya will be running for the 8th consecutive term in office. Mr Biya first came to power in 1982 and when on to win the 1984, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2004, 2011 and 2018 presidential elections.
He has been president for 43 years and will be 99 years if he wins the next election on Sunday October 12, 2025.
According to his statement on face book, his next mandate will prioritize security of the population.
“Ensuring the security and well-being of the sons and daughters of our beloved and beautiful country is the sacred duty to which I have devoted my time and energy since assuming the helm of the state” he wrote
The announcement comes to clear doubts that have been lingering that he may not stand again due to his advanced age.
Other Cameroonians are expected to officially announce their candidacies in the days ahead. Already declared their intentions to run are ISA Tchiroma Barkary, Bello Bouba, Maurice Nkamto, and Bar. Akere Muna.
