Wum Council Approves I Billion FCFA Budget to Drive Development

Councillors of the Wum Council, Menchum Division, North West Region, have unanimously approved the Council’s 2026 budget, estimated at CFA 999.7 million FCFA, aimed at transforming the municipality and improving the living standards of its population.

The budget was adopted during a statutory budgetary session held on December 12, 2025, at the Wum Town Hall, in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Menchum, traditional rulers (Fons), elites, economic operators, representatives of political parties, and other dignitaries.

Presiding over the session, the Mayor of Wum Council and Chair of the Council Session, Dighambong Anthony Mvo, welcomed participants and praised the impressive turnout, describing it as a clear demonstration of collective commitment to the development of Wum Municipality.

He called on councillors and the population to intensify collaboration in revenue collection to enable the successful implementation of council projects.The 2026 budget represents a slight increase of CFA 100,000 compared to the 2025 financial budget, reflecting a 0.01 percent rise in revenue and expenditure.

According to the Mayor, the budget is dedicated to key development projects, including the rehabilitation and construction of classrooms, supply of school benches, tables, and chairs, purchase of a brand-new front-end loader, construction of bridges, culverts, and staff residences, supply of medical equipment, creation and operationalization of an agricultural unit, and the acquisition of 250 plastic chairs for council use, among others.

Addressing the session, the Senior Divisional Officer of Menchum Division, Mr. Abdoullahi Aliou, commended the Mayor and councillors for the achievements recorded under the 2025 budget. He urged councillors to prioritize projects, strictly respect state laws, and ensure transparency in execution.

The SDO further called on the population to uphold peace and unity, noting that a stable environment is essential for the successful implementation of development projects in 2026.

At the end of the session, councillors reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Mayor and pledged to work diligently for the sustainable development of Wum Council and the well-being of its citizens.
