By Abongwa Fozo

Empty streets once again greeted the streets of Bamenda today Saturday October 5, 2024, which is also commemorated as World Teachers’ Day.

This is the 14th in a span of 28 days that Bamenda and a greater part of the Northwest is observing lock down. Unlike the lockdowns declared by separatist to coincide with school reopening in September (9 to 13th and 16 to 20th) and on October 1, to commemorate the socalled Ambazonia Independence day, the lockdown of today was not announced or enforced by the separatists.

But Bamenda denizen and the rest of the region barring Nkambe for fear of the unknown decided to stay home today.

Despite the self imposed lockdown, many could be seen trekking from one part of town to another while a good number of commercial bikes circulated. The were no taxis on the streets, the markets were closed though selling and buying took place on the streets near these markets.

So far City Web has not received any report of skirmishes between state forces and non state fighters.

life is expected to resume to normal on Sunday October 6, 2024 before the traditional ghost of Monday.

Meanwhile teachers observed their day in a subdue mode. Many opted to stay at home while a few went out to share drinks with friends in the relatively safer parts of town. Others grouped at the regional delegation to observe the day with other activities planned.
