NWRL: 1st Leg Quarter Finals Produce 8 Goals Thriller

Two matches of the first leg of the Northwest Regional League Mini Interpools quarter finals produced eight goals, with spectators thrilled by entertaining football.

First up was Dream team against Rockland FC. The match that started at a slow tempo gradually picked up five minutes after resumption when former Yosa and Cotonsport of Garoua Player Richard Ebongue hit a rocket just at the edge of the box to put Dream Team one goal up and opened what was to be a floodgate of goals for the day.

Rockland pushed for the equaliser creating some few chances but was caught again in the 66 minutes when an attacking move by Dream team was stopped through a heavy touch in the box.

Perudia Ndichia stepped up to convert the spot kick at the 68 minute to put the tie beyond Rockland..

The second match between Mankon United and My Soccer Centre produced some great football despite the rains that tried to dampen the play.

the match got up to a frantic start with former PWD player Nundi Cagawa scoring from the penalty spot at the third minute of play. My Soccer Centre replied immediately with a penalty of their own in the next attack.

Mankon United comes into the knockout as one of the favourites

jefferson Awah stepped up to convert the spot kick to bring both sides to level once more.

Mankon United once more took the initiative with a goal at the 23 minute by Tabort Etaka. The match will swing in possession from one side to the other till the close of the first half.

At the resumption of hostilities, My Soccer Centre quickly caught up with Mankon united. Marius Bivirka’s goal three minutes into resumption was good enough to silence the boisterous fans of Mankon United

My Soccer Centre almost pulled a surprise victory over Mankon United

Things will get even quieter when Edmond Gwan scored the 3rd for My Soccer Centre and gave them the lead for the first time in the 52nd minute.

Sensing a possible defeat from an outsider, coach Godson Hamlet of Mankon United and his boys will throw all the have in their tool box to get an equaliser. Standing on their way was goalkeeper Njifon Abdel Pare. This guy put up a Man of the match performance for My Soccer Center FC, producing save after save to maintain their lead.

But he was unable to produce one more save at the 90+4 minute as Tabot Etaka got his brace with a well timed kick from outside the box to restore parity.

Team captain Ade Mienolf of Mankon United believe starting the match on a low intensity after the resumption and the rains that dampen the pitch was what put them in a tight spot.

His Coach, Godson Hamlet thinks they are now aware of who their opponents are and will put up a good game in the return leg.

coach Junior Atsa Aye-Aye of My Soccer Center expressed his confidence in his team and looks positively toward overcoming his underdog status.

The competition continues on Sunday with two quarter final matches between Hilltop Strikers and All Stars as from 3 pm. Before that will be the Options Sport Academy Vs Vision Sports. Winners of the two leg will qualify for the si finals and later the finals to designate the regional champion and representative for the National Interpools.
