How fortune of times changes. With barely a game to go to the end of the first leg of the Elite One Championship, it all looked gloomy for PWD of Bamenda that was classified 15th in the 16 league table on 12 points. A difficult day 15 match laid await in Garoua against none other than Cotonsport, and a delay match in hand against Fauve Azure for a team that was unable to pick a victory in its last 6 matches looks damning.

As they say, when all is staked against you and your back is to the wall, there is only one place to run to, face the impending danger or parish. And so the Abakwa Boys faced with the prospect of being relegated alongside city rival, Yosa took the option to face its destiny squarely.

First it was in Garoua where PWD did not only dominate but inflicted a painful 2-0 defeat over Cotonsport for the first time in its history. The defeat was even much a blow to Cotonsport’s tittle chances than to PWD’s hopes of survival.

That victory seems to have given the team the much needed impetus. Coach Pagou David recently had Tama Wango, a closed friend and confident added to the team’s technical bench by management. This seems to be the magical wand by President Abunde and his team to get the Bamenda darling team back on winning ways.

And then came Fauve Azure in Bandjoun in a delayed day 11 match. A match previously programmed in Bamenda but suspended at half time because of a shooting incident at Yong Francis Mile VI Stadium Nkwen. PWD not only won, but beat Fauve Azure that had dominated them in the failed encounter by a resounding 3-0 score line to take their point tally to 18 fron 12 after just two matches.

This was the third match running unbeaten. PWD on day 13 had held high flying Colombe to a virgin tie. Three matches in a row, two Victory and a draw, five goals scored and none conceded. This is really a magical turn around. PWD ends the away phase placed 10th on the log table, on 18 points in 15 matches played and a goal difference of -2. That is four points above the drop zone and 12 away from the top.

The fans and supporters of the Abakwa Boys will definitely want to see the team in action soonest to keep this rich form up. Next up is Panthère of the NDE where PWD are hoping for the double . Kudos to the Abakwa Boys.
