Rev Ayuk Solomon becomes the 12th Synod clerk of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon since it gained autonomy from the Basel Mission in 1957. He was elected to the position in Buea on Monday November 18, 2024 during the Synod of Assurance.
Born on the 2nd August 1977, the 47-year old is noted as a dedicated worker who doesn’t make noise.
Rev Ayuk Solomon attended primary school from 1982-1989 in Government School Bekora Barombi in Ekondo Titi sub- division where he obtained his FSLC. He then proceeded to the then Government High School (GHS) now Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Ekondo Titi from 1989-1994 where he obtained his GCE ‘ O’ Level. From 1994-1996, he moved to Baptist High School (BHS), Great Soppo- Buea and had his GCE ‘A’ Level in 1996.
His dreams of pursuing university studies to become a medical Doctor were short lived due to serious health challenges; little did he know that God had a better plan for him. These challenges were just stepping stones to greater things to come.
His courage, determination, trust in God and by God’s grace he kept on moving on. He then picked up a teaching job at Western College of science and Technology Kumba where he taught Biology and Chemistry for four years. He also did petit trading and other meaner jobs, working as storekeeper and offering unskilled labour in the renovation of the frontage of PC Fiango Central. He was a very committed Christian and member of CYF Fiango Central Congregation.
Because of his commitment and hard work, he held several posts of responsibility in the group such as Financial Secretary, publicity/ vice Secretary and Treasurer. His commitment for service in the vineyard of God made some Christians and members of the CYF to ask him to enroll for the entrance into the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Kumba. In the year 2000, he wrote and passed the entrance examination into the Presbyterian Theological Seminary (PTS) Kumba.
While in the Seminary he was the Worship Coordinator, a position that gave him the opportunity to be appointed a member of the local organizing committee of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2002 and he was in charge of coordinating the sales of all the gadgets. As worship coordinator he was able to convince the Dean and Chaplain of the Seminary for students to go out of the then Kumba Presbytery to other Presbyteries for the celebration of the PC Day, a tradition that is still ongoing.
He was also the Financial Secretary of the Stand Against AIDS Club in the Seminary. After studying for three years he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology on the 29th of May 2003. His topic for research was “A Critical Analysis of Paul’s Damascus road Experience”. In July 2003, he was posted to Nkikoh Parish in Bangem sub-division, in the then Bakossi Presbytery where he served for four years. During this time he served as Presbytery Youth Coordinator, contributed to community development and cleanliness of the village.
From July 2007 -2012 he served as parish Pastor of Ngusi Parish still in Bakossi Presbytery, now Bakossi South Presbytery and CWF Spiritual adviser. During this time he taught in GHS Ngusi- Tombel as a Chemistry and Religious studies teacher. He was a member of the school Management board and health Committee in the Ngusi health area.
Having spent nine years in Bakossi Presbytery, he was then transferred to Ossing Parish in Mamfe Presbytery in July 2012, where he served for one year. He was also the president of the Ecumenical Movement in Ossing. The staffing Committee of May 2013 appointed and transferred him as Presbyterial Treasurer for Bui Presbytery and Parish Pastor of Mbveh Parish in Kumbo Town, where he served for five years.
He gained admission to study at Candler School of Theology Emory- Emory University in Atlanta USA in the year 2018. But due to his inability to have a visa to enable him travel, he was sent to Yaounde as Parish Pastor of PC Emana where he served for two years and as a Master’s degree student at Protestant University of Central Africa(PUCA)- Yaounde where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Theology specializing in Systematic Theology in August 2020.
His Thesis topic was “Assessing the role of the PCC in alleviating the sufferings of the IDPS in the Socio-Political Crisis of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon”.
He also served as spiritual adviser for all choir Associations in East Mungo North Presbytery and assisted in Mfou, Nkoabang and Simbock- Mendong congregations. Upon graduation, he was appointed Presbyterial Treasurer for Kumba Presbytery and Parish Pastor of PC Fiango Central where he served for one year, and the staffing committee of June 5th 2021 appointed and transferred him as Presbyterial Secretary for Ndian and Parish Pastor of PC Mundemba Town.
He is currently the vice President of Ndian divisional follow-up committee for the physical and Financial Execution of the Public Investment budget and the president of the Ecumenical Movement in Munudemba. He is one of the founding members of the Systematic Theology study group- The Areopagus.
He has been a GCE ‘O’ Level Examiner for several years. He was ordained on the 30th of November 2005 by the late Rev Dr Nyansako- Ni- Nku at PC Kumba Town. He is happily married to Mrs Martha Ayuk , a teacher trainer and they are blessed with three children- Karis, Dianaline and Hananella. He has a deep desire for knowledge, always ready to learn and serve. He is an obedient, calm, honest, hardworking and disciplined gentleman who believes in results, action and not too much talking.
He believes in team spirit, hard work and for things to be done right and at the right time. He is sensitive to the needs of others, full of compassion and forgiving. He also likes singing, watching football, movies and listening to good music.
