The supply of domestic gas to Bamenda was previously handled in Bafoussam, about 80km away from Bamenda, forcing the price up sue to the extra cost of transportation.
Okie Johnson Ndoh, Director General of The Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilization Fund (HPSF) said the Bamenda LPG centre will minimize the risks of gas shortages, contribute to efforts to revitalize the economy and create countless jobs for young Cameroonians. He encouraged business operators in the region to take up this opportunity and become suppliers and distributors in the supply cha
“This is a very welcome move by the government and the president” a resident of Bamendakwe Chenue Rogers told City Web, adding this is a development with no colour and that will benefit all he said in pidgin English. Another resident Tantoh Edith welcome the opportunities the centre will provide to them in terms of jobs.
The Bamenda LPG Centre is constructed by the HPSF. Following are two more centres in Kumba – Southwest region and Ebolowa – South region.
Statistics by the HPSF shows that consumption of domestic gas in Cameroon has increased significantly between 2008 and 2024. LPG imports over the same period increased by 459% from 36,184 MT to 234028 MT. This increase expert say is due to urbanisation and changes in the consumption habit of Cameroonians.
