Members and volunteers of the Mezam Divisional committee of the Red Cross held several activities in Bamenda today to observe the 79th anniversary of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Day.
Mr. MUMBARI JOSEPH FORCHU, Mezam Divsional Committee President of the Red Cross said they have been at the fore front of humanitarian activities in Mezam. The Red Cross he said has provided portable water to different communities with the assistance of the International Community of the Red Cross, helped trained volunteers, staff of institutions ang organisations and students from some health institutions on the provision of basic first aid services.

Mr Mumbari also pointed out that they have assisted in building the capacity of many volunteers on disaster management, communication and health provision, assisted the ministry of public health during immunization campaigns amongst others.
He also said the Mezam Committee has succeeded to revive four of the seven subdivisional committees in Mezam after nine years of inactivity, bringing back Santa to live.
Mr. Ignacio Javier Lepro, head of the ICRC Bamenda Sub delegation re-emphasized the role of the Red Cross family to humanity, upholding the same standard of care and provision of basic needs to the population in times of needs everywhere. He pointed out that the core of its activities is humanity, protecting human beings and giving them dignity.

The event also saw the donation of materials to the Mezam Divisional Committee of the Red Cross by the ICRC. These included two office tables and chairs, one office cupboard, one complete i5 desktop computer, two HP i7 laptops, a motorcycle and two helmets and several other office equipment and furniture.


Mr. Mumbari described the gifts as timely and that they will go a long way to strengthen the committee’s operational capacity and boast its efforts in the field. He expressed his gratitude to the ICRC and the National President of the Cameroon Red Cross, Mme Cecile Akame Mfoumou for the assistance given them
Other activities before and during the day included human investment at different council areas and hospitals in Bamenda I, II and III, a radio talk on City FM Radio, first aid demonstration at T-Junction Bamenda and a walk across some streets of Bamenda. Certificate were also handed out to some trainees.
