Bamenda October 1, 2024

The body of a young girl aged about nine years has been recovered from the Ntanche stream after she was carried away by the over flowing stream on Tuesday October 1, 2024 after heavy downpour. Her lifeless body was found some couple of metres away from the Mbatu Dam. She was swept down stream along with two other boys while sheltering from the rains under a bridge when they noticed the rising water level due to heavy rains up stream. They boys survived by holding on to tree trunks about 200 meters down stream, but unfortunately the girl did not. Her body was only found late into the evening.

Kumba (Meme Division – SWR) October 1

The senior Division officer for Meme Division Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong on October 1, 2024 sealed a number of shops at the Kumba Main Market, for failing to open. The SDO accompanied by security officers, was on the streets on Tuesday morning amid general silence in Kumba, caused by fear of separatist attacks. Kumba is an economic hub in the English-speaking South West Region of Cameroon, where separatist armed conflict has been raging since 2017. On October 1, Ambazonia separatists celebrated what they claim is their independence day, often holding, forbidden parades in many areas of the two regions.

The was visible disappointment among many fans of the Under 20 Lions in Bamenda after the U20 Lions lost to to the DRC in post match penalty kicks 4:3. The defeat meant Cameroon was eliminated from the UNIFFAC competition at the semifinals and will miss out of the U20 AFCON.  The under 20 lions have failed to qualify for the under 20 AFCON for the second consecutive year running. This means that Cameroon will not participate in the next under 20 World Cup. The result was a big disappointment for one of the Bamenda’s most promising talent, PWD’s Ning Che Bong kadad who was very impressive during the competition, conceding two goals in three matches. The shot stopper did not have the chance to display his talent during the penalty shotout as he was substituted.

Sop (Ndu Subdivision-Donga Mantung) October 1

The authorities in Ndu Subdivision of the Donga Mantung are yet to issue any statement after the cold blooded killing of a couple early on Tuesday Morning. It should be noted that Sop has experienced a series of deadly attacks in recent weeks, which locals attribute to armed Fulani herdsmen. However, it remains unclear whether the recent assault was carried out by the same group, as Wimbum Fons and the Mbororo community leaders had recently committed to peace during a meeting with local authorities. 

Acha -Tugi (Mbengwi Subdivision) October 29

According to reports emerging from Acha-Tugi, the population of Sanyere, an area of Mbengwi central subdivision, apprehended two notorious armed bandits on Sunday night. The bandits, who were part of a four-man gang, attempted to rob a local business establishment. According to eyewitnesses, the brave businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, single handedly subdued one of the thieves and alerted the community. The swift intervention of the population led to the capture of another of the bandit, while two escaped.

During interrogation, the captured bandits confessed to the murder of John Konerben a prominent businessman, at his Njinibi residence. They also revealed their involvement in various robberies, kidnappings, and break ins that have plagued Mbengwi subdivision.

The two bandits are currently in the custody of the military authorities. Two guns have been seized from them. The people of Mbengwi subdivision are breathing a sigh of relief, hoping that this marks the beginning of a safer, and more secure era for their community.
