Elements of the Army Rescue Unit have joined local volunteers in efforts to rescue a 9 year old girl swept away by a stream flowing between Ntanche and Aningdoh II through the Welcome to Bamenda and into the Mbatu Dam.
The children were swimming in a part of the river under a bridge on the new road from welcome to Bamenda into Bamendakwe when high torrent due to heavy downpour up stream swept the three children aged between nine and 14 years.
The bigger ones, both boys were able to survive when the current swept them into a forested area as the river overflow it’s banks. They quickly climbed into the road a few meters away from Welcome to Bamenda and alerted residents of the area who immediately launched a search. The over flow River reaching several meters above the bank prevented 0any meaningful search.
The Army Rescue was alerted. Adjudant Momo, deputy commander arrived the scene shortly accompanied by six elements. They quickly spread on both sides of the bridge but by press time were still unable to find the girl. The two boys have been evacuated to the hospital.
They have since been joined by the commander and more elements and the search the river leading down to the Mbatu Dam.
