Bafut, Cameroon – The historic Bafut heritage site has undergone a remarkable transformation following a two-week volunteer program organized by UNESCO and the North West regional delegation of Arts and Culture.
The program, which took place from August 24, 2024, saw the participation of volunteers from the regional delegation as well as members of the local Bafut community. Together, they accomplished a series of important tasks to revitalize and preserve this cultural landmark.
In the sacred Bafut forest, a place restricted to men, the volunteers planted mahogany and other wild tree species. Meanwhile, the women of the community focused their efforts on the palace grounds, planting fruit trees like apples along the stream and various other tree types.
“This program has breathed new life into the Bafut heritage site,” said the regional Arts and Culture delegate. “We are thrilled to see the community come together to safeguard this important piece of their cultural heritage.”
The Bafut heritage site is now open for tourists to explore and experience the rich history and traditions of this remarkable locality.
