Northwest Youth Sports Jamboree Enters Regional Stage

On Sunday August 9th 2026 The Northwest Sports Jamboree was officially launched in Bamenda Under the patronage of his excellency the Minister of Territorial administration Atanga Nji Paul.

The event took place at the Reformed Overcomers Chapel Up station Bamenda. Unlike other editions focusing just on sports, this year’s launch took a unique turn with five major Chorale groups and other cultural activities taking center stage. The Jamboree serves as a
platform for talent detection and social cohesion.

Activities have been taking place at the different divisional head quarters and now the regional head quarter is seeing the official launch. The runners up from the divisions will then compete with the others and the closing Ceremony and award of prizes will be communicated not more than two weeks from now.

On the question on what motivated the launch of the Jamboree in the church premise, the city mayor who doubles as the Shepherd of the church said “Unless the Lord watches over our city the watch men stay awake in Vain .Unless he watches over us, crime, kidnapping, molestation, ransom Collection, harassment will never cease, therefore we choose to come to the Lord for he is a Covenant keeping ‘God and I will sustain the foundation of your city if you come to me’ Jeremiah 33:14”.


As chairman of the organizing committee for this year’s Jamboree, the Bamenda City Mayor, Paul Achombang said “Football, basketball , singing, dancing and all other disciplines involved in this Jamboree are aspects to bring us closer to one another.

“Through friendship we can build a harmonious environment full of Peace. This is our virtue, this is our value, this is our dream that through sports and all the merits attached to it, true peace will surely follow as Sports has always United people and communities” he added.

The Regional President of the Cameroon National Youth Council, Rev. Mekom Samuel highlighted that the 2026 North West Regional Youth Sports Jamboree “goes beyond competition”, bringing together young people from all seven divisions of the NW region to promote peace, unity, talent development and friendship.

He encouraged youths to use sports, culture and civic activities to build bridges across communities, while commending the Minister of Territorial Administration and the Bamenda City Council for supporting the initiative. Rev. Mekom also highlighted the introduction of cultural competitions this year as an opportunity to celebrate the region’s diversity and called for sustained support to make the Jamboree a lasting platform for connecting young talents with opportunities.

To this year’s activities the following have been added, boxing, weight lifting,choral Singing, debate, traditional dances ,sports for the disabled,the lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming and lots more .It’s an all inclusive sports Jamboree. The motivation is to bring every talented Youth of the Northwest on board. It is a Ccelebration of unity, resilience friendship and hope .
