The Pinyin Fondom witnessed a historic and emotionally significant moment on Saturday, 11 April 2026, as His Royal Highness Fon Kenneth Khan Asobo III was formally enthroned as the Paramount Fon of Pinyin during a grand traditional ceremony at the magnificent Pinyin Palace.
The colourful event brought together sons and daughters of Pinyin from across Cameroon and the diaspora, alongside traditional rulers, administrative authorities, elites, and development stakeholders. The atmosphere was marked by celebration, traditional displays, and cultural dances, reflecting the community’s joy after more than a decade without a Paramount Fon.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simone Emile Mooh, congratulated the people of Pinyin on the successful enthronement and paid homage to the late Fon Asobo II, appreciating his services to both the State and the population of Pinyin.
He reminded the newly enthroned ruler of his responsibilities as an auxiliary of the administration, urging him to work closely with competent administrative authorities in maintaining law and order and promoting economic, social, and cultural development within the Fondom.
The SDO further emphasized the importance of unity within the Fondom, stating: “Bearing in mind that Pinyin village, like Cameroon, is one and indivisible, because there are some third class Fons here who are claiming their independence, I don’t know where they are coming from; Pinyin is one and indivisible.”
He called on the Paramount Fon to remain vigilant in addressing security challenges, promote peace and national cohesion, and work towards reviving development initiatives within the Fondom. He also encouraged the creation and strengthening of vigilante and peace structures to safeguard the population.
Addressing the Fon directly, the SDO noted that traditional rulers serve as auxiliaries of the administration and are expected to transmit government directives to their people and ensure their effective implementation. He further reassured the Fon of the State’s protection and collaboration in the discharge of his duties.
The population, elites, political actors, religious authorities, cooperatives, and members of the diaspora were equally urged to lend their unconditional support to the Paramount ruler to ensure the success of his reign.
Fon Kenneth Khan Asobo III, a former journalist with Cameroon Radio Television, was selected and presented to the population on November 4, 2025, ahead of his final enthronement ceremony.
Administrative authorities expressed confidence that his professional and intellectual background would enable him to foster growth and development, strengthen security structures, promote peace, and guide the Fondom toward stability and prosperity. The SDO also encouraged the Fon to reach out to community members still in hiding following the appeal by Paul Biya for disarmament and reintegration through the national Disarmament Demobilisation and Reintegration process, while continuing efforts to promote reconciliation and cohesion within the community.
Penn Eric, a son of the Fondom, described the occasion as a turning point:“We pray and hope that Pinyin will go forward with a leader who has vision.”
Muma Jude, a journalist and another indigene, emphasized the importance of restored leadership: “Before, every family head wanted to become a Fon because there was no father in the house, but with the enthronement of the king that will no longer exist.”

In an exclusive interview, the Executive President of the Pinyin Development Organization (PDO), Barrister Achu Owen Teneng, called on all sons and daughters of Pinyin to remain united and supportive of the Paramount ruler.According to him “We have to remain united. We need to stand by our Paramount ruler. We have to accompany him and give him the support that he deserves. The PDO is here to ensure that he is given the support and collaboration.”
Several important traditional rites were performed during the enthronement ceremony, each carrying deep cultural meaning. Among them was the symbolic stoning of the Fon, representing spiritual strengthening and protection against adversity.
Another significant ritual involved spitting into a communal bowl, which according to Professor Mbu Tenue symbolizes unity and the collective commitment of the people to pour their spiritual, emotional, and communal resources into a shared future.
The pebbling ritual also formed part of the ceremony, symbolizing the people’s transfer of their concerns and responsibilities to the Fon as their protector and leader.
Toward the Final Coronation
The enthronement ceremony follows the earlier selection and presentation of Fon Kenneth Khan Asobo III on 4 November 2025 and precedes the final coronation ceremony scheduled for December 2026, which will complete the traditional installation process.
With the restoration of the Paramount stool, expectations remain high that the leadership of HRH Fon Kenneth Khan Asobo III will usher in a new era of unity, peace, and development for the Pinyin Fondom.
