Fire Razes Part of Bamenda Main Market

A huge fire has destroy part of the Bamenda Main Market, causing huge financial and material lost to many businesses.

The fire that started at the tailoring lane, a few metres from the main gate from the Commercial Avenue at about 5 pm today quickly spread consuming adjacent sheds. It took the Army Rescue Unit hours to calm the raging flames.

The cause of the fire is still not certain though some shed owners blame an electrical short circuit. The fire started when the market was shouting down for the day.  The flames could be seen miles away as it brighten the night sky.

Several shop owners could be seen arriving the scene from different parts of town to secure their belonging.

In a related story, a man was lynched by the angry shed owners after  he was caught looting from the market.

Amongst those to arrive the market as firefighters battle the flames was the City Mayor, Paul Achombong. Security forces have been called in by the administration to secure the area.
