The incident occurred around 8 pm Wednesday 14th August 2024 as armed men stormed the Citizen filling station at Che street, Ntarinkon neighbourhood, setting six taxis ablaze before firing several gun shots in the air and disappearing into the night.
It was thanks to the timely intervention of inhabitants of Che Street that the fire was prevented from spreading further and engulfing the entire filling station.
The taxis were already parked for the day when they were set alight. No group has claimed responsibility or given reasons for the attack. But it is believed that it was carried out by one of the separatist faction
Separatist fighters in March issued an order calling for township taxis to be painted white and blue (colours of the Ambazonian flag). The burning of taxis have become a common act in Bamenda since then.
This is the first time parked taxis have been set ablaze since separatist fighters launched their campaign to force taxis to change their colours. It was more of carrying out sporadic surprise attacks on taxis circulating and burnin them.
