As the first phase of the Elite championships nears an end, PWD of Bamenda missed the opportunity to hold on to a favourable top four spot that could grant them a place in the championship play off. The Abakwa Boys slumped to a 0-1 defeat to Aigle of the Menoua on Wednesday February 21, in a match day 16 fixture in Mbouda.
This was the second back to back match that PWD Bamenda lost to a similar score line following the restart of the championship after the AFCON 2023 in the Ivory Coast. On Sunday PWD Bamenda suffered a similar 0-1 lost to Union of Douala and on Wednesday to Aigle.
A win in any of these matches would have taken the Bamenda outfit to 23 points and amongst the top four in group A.
The top four of each pool will qualify for the Elite One playoff to determine the championship while the rest of the teams will play in another playoff to determine the five teams that will be relegated into the elite Two.
The top four position in the pool is currently held by Canon of Yaounde 28 points, Dynamo of Doaula 26 points, Aigle of the Menoua 24 points and Bamboutos of Mbouda 23 points.  PWD of Bamenda counts 20 points after 16 matches played, behind Colombe of the South and Gazalle FC of Garoua on 22 and 21 points in that order.
PWD will next play against Les Astres and Gazalle FC in their  remaining fixtures. They will need to win the remaining matches and pray result elsewhere go in their favour to make it into the top four and avoid the gruesome playoff to determine the five teams to be relegated.
